Hotmax 10kg is made in the UK from softwood fines (sawdust and bark) extracted whilst making dust free horse bedding. The wood used is all from sustainably managed British forestry and the Hotmax cobs are made using a product that would have otherwise gone to landfill.
Burning characteristics:
Two or three cobs will produce fast heat and flame, leaving a good ember base. Use a handful of Hotmax with a Waxling firelighter in the centre to get the fire going quickly. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth.
Hotmax 10kg are perfect for:
Starting or reviving a fire. The fact that they’re a bit smaller than some of the other briquettes makes them great for quick heat and they’re brilliant for reviving a dying fire. They’re an ideal kindling replacement but can also be a main fuel in smaller stoves. The cobs come in a variety of sizes but larger ones can be broken if needed. Our pallet courier will normally deliver your order on an 18 tonne lorry with a tail lift. This means the kerbside of your property must be accessible to a large vehicle. If a bin lorry can access the road then an 18 tonne lorry should be able to as well but it will be up to the driver to determine this.
A good guide is to expect the driver to leave your pallet where your bin goes out for collection.
If Palletways are unable to deliver to the kerbside of your property, for example because of access restrictions which mean a 7.5t vehicle will not be able to get to the property’s kerbside, we will need to put special delivery arrangements in place. These arrangements may incur additional charges, for which you, the customer, are responsible. If you think you may need alternative arrangements please let us know prior to ordering so we can get a quote for you.

Wood Fuel express pack orders are sent with APC, who offer a Next Working Day service to most of the UK. Some areas are on a 2-5 day service, so if you need your order urgently please check with us first.
We do not guarantee Next Working Day delivery, although we will always dispatch your order as quickly as possible to ensure it has the best chance of arriving when you need it. Orders placed after 12pm will generally be dispatched the next day, or on Monday if placed after 12pm on a Friday.

Please take this into account when deciding where to store your briquettes. Pallets will arrive wrapped in plastic to protect them during their journey. This plastic will temporarily protect them from inclement weather but is not suitable for outside storage. The wax comes from a factory making scented candles and is a waste product that would otherwise end up in landfill. The lighters have a pleasant scent. The production facility is run by solar panels. All packaging materials are 100% recyclable cardboard.
Burning characteristics:
A Dr Heat Firelighter lights first time, every time and burns for about 10 minutes, which is long enough to light any well-built wood fire. Easy to light.

An additional benefit of growing Miscanthus is its ability to actively sequester carbon within the crop’s rhizomes. Miscanthus grows again each your from its extensive and expanding rhizome structure, so no need for annual planting with the associated additional carbon footprint.
Miscanthus is recognised as the number one energy crop by the biggest power producers in the UK. It is a carbon neutral replacement for coal.

UK RUF briquettes are a dense softwood briquette, produced in England.

Their rich reddish brown colour is due to the mixture of softwoods used. They may contain some bark but they are not suitable for keeping a stove in overnight.
Because they’re square, RUF blocks don’t roll in the hearth, so they’re easy and safe to use in an open fire.
Burning characteristics:
Giving out a steady heat with a nice flame, these are really easy-to-use-briquettes. They burn for around two hours depending on airflow and give off good heat for the duration of their burn time.
UK RUF are Perfect for:
UK RUF are great to get the fire going, used as a ‘heat sink’ in the back of the fire, where they will glow for a couple of hours and help create a really good heart in your fire. Many people also use RUF blocks as a sole fuel throughout the burn. However, they do not generate the high and consistent heat of something like Pini-Kay or Beech Nestro. They are a handy size so are excellent on a smaller stove or open fire.

Please take this into account when deciding where to store your briquettes. Pallets will arrive wrapped in plastic to protect them during their journey. This plastic will temporarily protect them from inclement weather but is not suitable for outside storage. Because they’re square, RUF blocks don’t roll in the hearth, so they’re easy and safe to use in an open fire.

Goldies are a short nestro with a hole. They’re made from mixed softwoods, compressed into dense heat logs. The sawdust comes from sustainably managed Scottish forests.
Burning characteristics:
Goldies are approximately 200mm long, and are perfect for small stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 45 mins – 1.5 hours. The hole through the middle aids air flow, so they burn beautifully, and for a good length of time. Shorter than a standard nestro, they are ideal for smaller stoves but can be broken if needed, either for starting the fire or if your stove is very small.

Suitable for both smaller stoves and open fires, Goldies produce great heat with an excellent flame.

- A base charge of £71 covers the cost of packing, wrapping, strapping and delivering (surcharges apply for offshore)
- Onto this base pallet, you can select any product from the list, in any quantity you wish
- There’s a weight limit of 980kg per pallet, which is about 98 packs.
- Due to industry regulation changes, if you require a 7.5 ton delivery vehicle the maximum pallet weight you can order is 720kgs. If you are unsure what vehicle size you need please phone us on 01387 731 210 to discuss your requirements.
- The green bar at the bottom of the page adds up the weight of your products as you select them and will turn orange as you near the weight limit.

The Wood Fuel Co-operative offers you the ability to Pick and Mix your own pallet of wood fuel. This unique service, where we build a pallet to your exact requirements, is a flexible, cost-effective way to buy your briquettes.
‘Mix Your Own’ Pallets start with a base charge of £71, which covers the cost of packing, wrapping, strapping and delivering (surcharges apply for offshore) your pallet. This lets us offer you the unique ability to have total flexibility with your choice and quantity of products. You can put as much or as little on your base pallet as you choose, of any combination of briquettes, as long as you stay within the maximum 980kg weight limit.

Burning characteristics:
- Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
- Hardwood Pini-Kay are easily cracked into smaller sections if required, but they do not expand and so are easy to use on a small stove. They light easily and burn long and hot with an excellent flame. Highly suitable for the smaller stove of around 5kw. The bark content leaves more ash, which in turn helps with long burn time.
- UK Hardwood Briquettes are easy to light and quick to reach a high operating temperature, which enables your stove to work at maximum efficiency. They burn with a lively flame to start with, then turn red hot and provide a good steady heat for a couple of hours. Everyday Value Briquettes will expand lengthways as they burn, so place them across your fire rather than pointing towards the hearth.
- Hotmax are handy little cobs, two or three cobs will produce fast heat and flame, leaving a good ember base. Use a handful of Hotmax with a Waxling or Dr Heat firelighter in the centre to get the fire going quickly. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth.
- Roastie Toasties can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw.

Waxling Firelighters are made from fine, kiln dried pine strands (wood wool) coated in candle wax. They are 100% natural, chemical free and odourless, so no smell on your fingers after handling, and they’re completely safe to use.
Burning characteristics:
A Waxling Firelighter burns for about 8-10 minutes, which is long enough to light any well-built wood fire. Because they’re densely bound, just one in the middle of a handful of cobs or kindlers lights easily. Sometimes you’ll find a Waxling that’s a bit too tightly bound – don’t worry, just twist it a little first to loosen the outer fibres.
There are a few wood wool lighters on the market but many of them are very poor quality, so you need to use a few of them per fire. Waxling Firelighters are one of the best we’ve found, because you only need to use one per fire, which makes them better value then the cheaper packs. They’re also more attractive and cleaner than many alternative brands. Our staff love them!

The environmental impact of our products is important to us, so we are constantly working with our suppliers to improve the sustainability of their packaging by using cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible.

We are registered with the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) and every purchase comes with a BSL compliant receipt.
Woodlets biomass pellets are only for use in biomass boilers and specialised pellet stoves; they are not suitable for use in wood burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves, or open fires.
Woodlets are also suitable for use in pellet-fired pizza ovens. These are softwood pellets but once pelletised, there is very little difference between soft and hardwoods. They have the same energy output as branded hardwood pellets but cost much less to buy. You can read about our personal experiences using Woodlets as pizza fuel here.
Woodlets are produced from FSC certified forestry. FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council. This ensures that the timber used is sourced from forestry which complies with strict social and economical responsibility standards. To read more about the Forest Stewardship Council, click here.
Woodlets are made in Ayrshire using timber from local forestry, reducing the distance that the raw materials have to travel to be processed. This helps us to drastically reduce our carbon footprint.

Pallet Orders are delivered by our partner couriers, Palletways, not our own drivers.
Your goods are delivered on a pallet, the footprint of which is usually approximately 1.2m x 1m. The height of the pallet depends on the products you’ve ordered but may be up to two metres high.
The maximum weight of a pallet is 980kg.
Our pallet courier will normally deliver your order on an 18 tonne lorry with a tail lift. This means the kerbside of your property must be accessible to a large vehicle. If a bin lorry can access the road then an 18 tonne lorry should be able to as well but it will be up to the driver to determine this.
If Palletways are unable to deliver to the kerbside of your property, for example because of access restrictions which mean a 7.5t vehicle will not be able to get to the property’s kerbside, we will need to put special delivery arrangements in place. These arrangements may incur additional charges, for which you, the customer, are responsible. If you think you may need alternative arrangements please let us know prior to ordering so we can get a quote for you.

Wood Fuel express pack orders are sent with APC, who offer a Next Working Day service to most of the UK. Some areas are on a 2-5 day service, so if you need your order urgently please check with us first.
We do not guarantee Next Working Day delivery, although we will always dispatch your order as quickly as possible to ensure it has the best chance of arriving when you need it. Orders placed after 12pm will generally be dispatched the next day, or on Monday if placed after 12pm on a Friday.

Made from:
- Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
- Kindling are kiln-dried local, Scottish softwood.
- Hotmax are small cobs made in England from the dust and fines extracted during horse bedding production.
- Hardwood Pini-Kay are pini-kay briquettes made from pure Oak.
- Woodlets Briquettes are made in Scotland from softwood forest thinnings.
- Woodlets Heat Logs are large, dense cylindrical briquettes, made in Scotland using pure wood from sustainable UK timber
- Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are clean, dry scottish mixed hardwoods cut to 9 inch.
Burning characteristics:
- Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
- Kindling is a traditional way to start your fire.
- Hotmax can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw. They can be variable in density with the harder denser briquettes being best for using as a main fuel whilst the softer lighter ones are best for use as a kindling.
- Hardwood Pini-Kay are easily cracked into smaller sections if required, but they do not expand and so are easy to use on a small stove. They light easily and burn long and hot with an excellent flame. Highly suitable for the smaller stove of around 5kw. The bark content leaves more ash, which in turn helps with long burn time.
- Woodlets Briquettes are made in Scotland from softwood forest thinnings. They are a great main burning fuel.
- Woodlets Heat Logs are perfect for all stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 1.5 – 2 hours. Because they’re easy to break they can be used on all sizes of stove or open fire.
- Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are traditional and attactive on an open fire.
Open Fire Mix is Perfect for:
This mix is ideal for open fires, which can be greedy to feed compared with stoves. Open fires require fuel that expands only minimally to be sure it does not spill over into the hearth. All these briquettes have been selected on that basis. Please be sure to build you fire slowly and do not overload.
None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

Each pack is plastic wrapped but not always fully sealed. They are not in waterproof packaging. There will often be gaps in the wrap, due to the wrapping process. The wrap is only there to hold the packs together, rather than to weatherproof them. Please take this into account when deciding where to store your briquettes.
