What’s the Cheapest Way to Buy my Wood Fuel?

Buying in person from our Dumfries Shop is the cheapest way of getting your fuel. If you buy through our website, prices include delivery.

Can I Click & Collect?

No, unfortunately not. We don’t have the staff or space to put orders together for collection, so we recommend you come in and buy in the Dumfries Shop instead.
Although it is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering within retail premises, we would ask that you respect the decision of some of our customers to continue this practice. Hand sanitisers are still available at the entrance to the shop. Our staff are still cleaning trolleys and card machines to help keep you safe. If you are shielding and require alternative arrangements please phone us on 01387 731 210.

Is the Shop Wheelchair Accessible?

Our shop is fully wheelchair accessible and staff are always on hand to help you select and load your briquettes onto trolleys and into your car.

I am New to Briquette Burning. Can you Advise Me?

Absolutely.
All of the staff here have stoves at home and are all pretty knowledgeable about wood burning. We’re always happy to talk you through our range and offer suggestions on the most suitable fuels for you. Please just ask when you arrive and we will help.

Local Deliveries – Briquettes, Logs & Wood Pellets

Briquettes & Wood Pellets
Your Wood Fuel order will be delivered by Palletways, so please check our Pallet Delivery Information page to ensure you are able to accommodate a delivery by lorry. Palletways deliveries are kerbside and the driver cannot unstack your order and place it in your storage shed.
If your property is not suitable for a Palletways delivery, or you are unable to unpack and stack your order yourself, we may be able to deliver using our own van. Please let us know if you think this is the case and we can discuss your options. You can do this by phoning our office on 01387 731210 – just ask for Mark, Sue or Rowland.
Kiln-dried Log Deliveries
Kiln Dried Logs can be delivered either in crates or pallets of nets. Most log deliveries will be made by Palletways. To arrange a local delivery, please give us a call on 01387 731 210.

Quick guide to choosing the best Wood Fuel for your stove and lifestyle.

*Break - We strongly recommend you break these briquettes in half (or less for very small stoves) because they do expand whilst burning and you don't want them to overfill the fire.
*Easy to light - We always use a Firelighter and Kindling Sticks to start our fires. Most briquettes are graded four stars to light because they are quite dense and require kindling.

Notes:

  • All stove and flue combinations tend to have different burning characteristics. Fuel that works well in my stove may not work so well in your stove, and vice-versa.
  • Most modern stoves are more efficient than most older stoves, meaning a modern quality stove will burn fuel more economically and generate more heat over a longer period.
  • Always try to burn fuel with a 'lick of flame'. Smouldering fuel to try to extend burn time is bad for your stove, flue and the environment due to unburned particulate matter in the smoke.
  • Be prepared to break briquettes into smaller sections to fit into your stove comfortably. Many briquettes do expand whilst burning and you don't want them to expand onto the glass.
  • The chart above indicates which briquettes are easy to break. Some are small enough so they don't need breaking. This makes for a cleaner environment around your stove.
  • All briquettes, except Everyday Value and Hotmax, benefit hugely from using kindling to light them. I suggest five kindling sticks will be sufficient, meaning a net should last 30 days.
