    Beech Nestro

What are Beech Nestro made from?

Beech Nestro are made in Germany from pure beech grindings, which produce a dense, low dust briquette. The beech sawdust comes from a company producing high-end beech buildings and flooring.

Beech Nestro are quite simply the best briquette we have ever found – probably the best briquette in the world.

Like all our briquettes, Beech Nestro is 100% pure, unadulterated wood dust. It contains no additives or binders; just pure Beech dust.

What makes Beech Nestro the best briquette in our range?

Beech Nestro tick all the boxes for a top quality, premium briquette. We use them in our own stoves because they give out lots of heat over a long period of time.

Why are Beech Nestro so good?

    • They’re large and dense; each chunky log weighs around 2.5kg, so they’re great for bigger stoves.
    • For smaller stoves, they’re just as good; simply break them into half before using. This is easy to do, – break them by sharply tapping two of the heat logs together.
    • They’re very highly compressed, so they produce almost no dust and this density helps them burn for several hours.
    • Best of all, Beech Nestro produce huge amounts of heat with an attractive flame.
    • Two will last up to four hours with excellent heat and flame characteristics. They generate a consistent heat so you’re not constantly loading the stove or adjusting the air flow.

How do I use Beech Nestro?

Beech Nestro burn beautifully in stoves and open fires of all sizes. For most stoves we recommend breaking them in half, as they will expand a little while burning. Half a Beech Nestro in a 5kw stove will give out lots of heat for an hour or two. Beech can be used alone or mixed with other briquettes or logs.

    Best paired with…

You can use Beech Nestro on its own as a main burn but if you’re looking for a little variety, you can also mix them with other fuels.

We find that Beech Nestro combine nicely with UK Hardwood Briquettes, which are much easier to light and faster to reach temperature.

They also work brilliantly paired with RUF Oak, creating a long-burning combination that will push out lots of heat.

Can I use Beech Nestro to light my fire?

Some people find that because Beech Nestro is very dense, it can be difficult to light from cold. Customers who don’t want to use more than one type of product break the Beech into thinner slices, which then light easily. We tend to use UK Hardwood Briquettes as a kindling and then place the Beech on top.

For the very easiest method (it’s foolproof!) to light your fire, check out our How to Light your Fire blog post.

Do wood briquettes have anything artifical in them?

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

In order to place wood briquettes on the UK market, we have to have Ready to Burn certificates for them. This involves regular chemical analyses of the briquettes to ensure that they are 100% pure wood with no additives or binders. It also reassures you that they are dry and safe to burn.

    Pallets

All prices shown include the cost of mainland UK delivery. For offshore addresses, you can check if surcharges apply using our postcode checker

Due to industry regulation changes, if you require a 7.5 tonne delivery vehicle the maximum pallet weight you can order is 720kgs. If you are unsure what vehicle size you need please phone us on 01387 731 210 to discuss your requirements.

Pallet Orders are delivered by our partner couriers, Palletways, not our own drivers.

Your goods are delivered on a pallet, the footprint of which is usually approximately 1.2m x 1m. The height of the pallet depends on the products you’ve ordered but may be up to two metres high.

The maximum weight of a pallet for non-restricted access deliveries is 980kg.

Our pallet courier will normally deliver your order on an 18 tonne lorry with a tail lift. This means the kerbside of your property must be accessible to a large vehicle. If a bin lorry can access the road then an 18 tonne lorry should be able to as well but it will be up to the driver to determine this.

A good guide is to expect the driver to leave your pallet where your bin goes out for collection.

If Palletways are unable to deliver to the kerbside of your property, for example because of access restrictions which mean a 7.5t vehicle will not be able to get to the property’s kerbside, we will need to put special delivery arrangements in place. These arrangements may incur additional charges, for which you, the customer, are responsible. If you think you may need alternative arrangements please let us know prior to ordering so we can get a quote for you.

For detailed information on pallet deliveries, please see our dedicated page.

    Express Packs:

Wood Fuel express pack orders are sent with APC, who offer a Next Working Day service to most of the UK. Some areas are on a 2-5 day service, so if you need your order urgently please check with us first.

We do not guarantee Next Working Day delivery, although we will always dispatch your order as quickly as possible to ensure it has the best chance of arriving when you need it. Orders placed after 12pm will generally be dispatched the next day, or on Monday if placed after 12pm on a Friday.

If you think that an 18 tonne lorry will not be able to access your road, we can ask Palletways to use a smaller vehicle. For this option, please ensure:
    • your order weighs no more than 720kg
    • you tick the ‘Access Restrictions’ button at checkout
    • you put in your order notes that you require a 7.5T vehicle

We recommend storing your briquettes indoors only.

Storing Your Briquettes – The Basics: DO store your briquettes in:
      • Watertight shed
      • Dry garage
      • Porch or conservatory
      • Inside house
      • Dry outbuildings
      • Some plastic garden stores, as long as they are watertight
DO NOT store your briquettes in:
      • Traditional log stores
      • Uncovered, outdoor areas
      • Buildings that are damp or have high humiditiy levels
Traditional log stores are open or vented. This is because logs require airflow around them to keep them dry. Briquettes are already dry so if they are exposed to moisture they will start to expand. This makes them useless for burning. Storing your briquettes the right way is really important. A damp briquette will just turn back into sawdust!

    Packaging

These briquettes come in plastic wrapped packs. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities. Each pack is plastic wrapped but not always fully sealed. They are not in waterproof packaging. There will often be gaps in the wrap, due to the wrapping process. The wrap is only there to hold the packs together, rather than to weatherproof them. Please take this into account when deciding where to store your briquettes. Pallets will arrive wrapped in plastic to protect them during their journey. This plastic will temporarily protect them from inclement weather but is not suitable for outside storage. Please ensure you are able to cover/protect the pallet if you are not able to put it under cover immediately.

    Hardwood Pini-Kay

    Made from:

Hardwood Pini-Kay are made from beech and oak hardwoods

    Burning characteristics:

These Pini-Kay do not expand, so they are great for an open fire, producing a beautiful flame and holding their shape well. They give out excellent heat over a long period of time; most people find they burn well for 2 hours but in some stoves they will last much longer.

Their very dense compression means that they are clean to handle and produce a lot of heat for their size.

The hole through the middle of the briquette aids airflow,  making it easier to light and get up to temperature quickly.

    Hardwood Pini-Kay are perfect for:

Pini-Kay are great all-rounders. They work well in any size stove, although as they are quite compact they are best suited to stoves under 7kw. Ideal in open-fires, they are safe and easy to use as they do not expand. They can be broken up to use as kindlers, or burnt whole as a main fuel. As a bonus, they look very attractive as they burn!

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    Hotmax 10kg

    Made from:

Hotmax 10kg is made in the UK from softwood fines (sawdust and bark) extracted whilst making dust free horse bedding. The wood used is all from sustainably managed British forestry and the Hotmax cobs are made using a product that would have otherwise gone to landfill.

    Burning characteristics:

Two or three cobs will produce fast heat and flame, leaving a good ember base. Use a handful of Hotmax with a Waxling firelighter in the centre to get the fire going quickly. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth.

    Hotmax 10kg are perfect for:

Starting or reviving a fire. The fact that they’re a bit smaller than some of the other briquettes makes them great for quick heat and they’re brilliant for reviving a dying fire. They’re an ideal kindling replacement but can also be a main fuel in smaller stoves. The cobs come in a variety of sizes but larger ones can be broken if needed. They hold their shape well, so are clean to handle.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

For further information on delivery, please see our dedicated page.

The driver may not be able to access your road if there are:
    • low overhead lines or low hanging branches
    • low bridges or bridges with weight limits
    • narrow access roads that prevent the vehicle manoeuvering/turning

    Restricted Access
If you think that an 18 tonne lorry will not be able to access your road, we can ask Palletways to use a smaller vehicle. For this option, please ensure:
    • your order weighs no more than 720kg
    • you tick the ‘Access Restrictions’ button at checkout
    • you put in your order notes that you require a 7.5T vehicle

7.5T is the smallest vehicle we can request. If you’re not sure, please phone us on 01387 731 210 and we can check your access for you.

    UK Hardwood Briquettes

What are UK Hardwood Briquettes made from?

UK Hardwood Briquettes are a cylindrical wood briquette made from mixed hardwoods. They’re produced in England using sawdust from the manufacture of hardwood mouldings for furniture. They are 100% pure, untreated wood dust, with no additives or binders.

Each 5kg pack contains four briquettes that easily hand-break into smaller sections if required.

What are UK Hardwood Briquettes’ burning characteristics?

Easy to light and quick to reach a high operating temperature, these small, versatile briquettes enable your stove to work at maximum efficiency. They burn with a lively flame and great heat.

What are UK Hardwood Briquettes suitable for?

Our best value economy heat logs, UK Hardwood Briquettes are ideal as a main fuel for stoves up to 5kw. They are also an excellent kindling replacement, with a quick starter flame and instant heat.

    They are great for:

    • Small wood and multi-fuel stoves
    • Producing fast heat
    • Supplementing larger, denser briquettes
    • Lighting easily and quickly

How do I use UK Hardwood Briquettes?

Break them up into smaller pieces and place them around one firelighter for a quick and easy way to light the fire. Alternatively, use them in larger pieces as a main fuel in smaller stoves.

    Best paired with…

Use them alongside a larger dense long-burn briquette such as Beech Nestro or RUF Oak for maximum efficiency.

    Anything else I should know?

These are economy briquettes, not long-burners. They’re great for smaller stoves and for quickly heating up the room but they’re not an ideal main fuel for larger stoves. They’re not a replacement for Beech Nestro or Woodlets, but they are brilliant when used alongside longer-burning products. Some people find they produce some dust, especially when broken, so keep this in mind.

They need completely dry storage in order to keep them at their best.

    Storing Your Briquettes

    Hotmax 20kg Express

    Made from:

Hotmax 20kg is made in the UK from softwood fines (sawdust and bark) extracted whilst making dust free horse bedding.

    Hotmax 20kg are perfect for:

Starting or reviving a fire. The fact that they’re a bit smaller than some of the other briquettes makes them great for quick heat and they’re brilliant for reviving a dying fire. They’re an ideal kindling replacement but can also be a main fuel in smaller stoves. The cobs come in a variety of sizes but larger ones can be broken if needed. They hold their shape well, so are clean to handle.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    Composition: Clean, dry softwood dust.
    Compression: 1,200 kg/m3
    Calorific value: 4.7 kWh/kg
    Max. ash content: 3.0%
    Max. water content: 7.0%
    Product Standard: Ready to Burn

    Express Packs:

Wood Fuel express pack orders are sent with APC, who offer a Next Working Day service to most of the UK. Some areas are on a 2-5 day service, so if you need your order urgently please check with us first.

We do not guarantee Next Working Day delivery, although we will always dispatch your order as quickly as possible to ensure it has the best chance of arriving when you need it. Orders placed after 12pm will generally be dispatched the next day, or on Monday if placed after 12pm on a Friday.

For further information on delivery, please see our dedicated page.

We recommend storing your briquettes indoors only.

Ready to Burn logo for Kindling - Wood Fuel Co-operative

    Premium Kindling Sticks

What are our Premium Kindling Sticks made from?

Premium Kindling sticks are made in the UK from local, sustainably sourced softwoods. They are kiln-dried, making them ideal for easy firelighting.  These kindlers are an even size and length, at approx 20cm, and they are stacked neatly in a net.

How do I use Premium Kindling Sticks?

Our Premium Kindling Sticks are quick to light from a firelighter. We recommend using four to six sticks per fire, loosely stacked on top of a firelighter.  Once lit, they will burn rapidly for 10 minutes or so, and your main fuel will catch well from these lively flames.

We find that traditional kindling burns quicker than Hotmax or UK Hardwood Briquettes, so if you struggle with firelighting try using one of those instead. If you enjoy tradition though, our Premium Kindling will ignite a well-laid wood based fire easily and effectively.

What are Premium Kindling Sticks suitable for?

They’re ideal for starting a wood-based fire; once the fire is burning well, you can use any mixture of kiln-dried logs, wood briquettes, and smokeless fuels to get the best from your fire.
