Hardwood Pini-Kay – Oak and Beech Briquettes

Hardwood Pini-Kay briquettes are made from compressed oak and beech sawdust. They produce excellent heat over a long period, with an attractive flame that makes them a good choice for stoves and open fires.

They don’t expand while burning and hold their shape well. Their compact size, clean handling and high heat output make them a useful all-round briquette.

What are Hardwood Pini-Kay briquettes made from?

Hardwood Pini-Kay is made from oak and beech sawdust compressed into dense blocks.

There are no additives, chemicals or artificial binders. The pure, untreated wood by-product is held together by compression alone.

What are they like to burn?

Pini-Kay gives excellent heat with an attractive flame. Most customers find that a briquette burns well for around two hours, although it may last longer in some stoves.

The briquettes are very densely compressed, so they provide plenty of heat for their size while remaining clean and easy to handle.

Why is there a hole through the middle?

The hole running through each briquette allows air to circulate through the fuel.

This helps the briquette light more easily and get up to temperature quickly.

Can I use Pini-Kay in an open fire?

Yes. Hardwood Pini-Kay works well in open fires.

The briquettes hold their shape and don’t expand as they burn, which makes them straightforward to position in an open fire.

Do Hardwood Pini-Kay briquettes expand?

No. Unlike some other wood briquettes, Pini-Kay doesn’t expand while burning.

This makes the briquettes straightforward to position in either a stove or an open fire.

Can they be used as kindling?

Yes. Pini-Kay can be broken into smaller pieces and used as kindling.

They can also be burned whole as the main fuel once your fire is established.

Can they be used in a Smoke Control Area?

Hardwood Pini-Kay is Ready to Burn certified and meets FSC standards.

For use in a Smoke Control Area, the fuel must be burned in a DEFRA-approved appliance.

How should Hardwood Pini-Kay be stored?

Hardwood Pini-Kay must be kept completely dry.

A watertight shed, dry garage, porch, conservatory or dry outbuilding is suitable. The packs can also be kept inside the house or in a watertight plastic garden store.

Don’t leave them in a traditional open log store, an uncovered area or a damp building. Briquettes are already very dry and will absorb moisture if exposed to it. Once damp, they can begin to expand and eventually turn back into sawdust.

How is Hardwood Pini-Kay packaged?

Hardwood Pini-Kay comes shrink-wrapped in plastic. Pallets are also plastic wrapped for transport.

This provides temporary protection from the weather but isn’t suitable for outdoor storage. Make sure you can move the fuel under cover or protect it when it arrives.

Please check with your local authority to find out whether the packaging can be recycled in your area.

What quantities can I order?

Hardwood Pini-Kay is available in several quantities:

• Mix Your Own Pallet: one 10 kg pack
• Express Pack: two 10 kg packs — 20 kg
• Quarter Pallet: 24 packs — 240 kg
• Half Pallet: 48 packs — 480 kg
• Three-Quarter Pallet: 72 packs — 720 kg
• Full Pallet: 96 packs — 960 kg

What should I know about delivery?

Delivery is included in the displayed pallet price for most mainland UK addresses. Some mainland and offshore postcode areas carry an additional charge, which can be checked using our postcode checker.

Express Packs are sent by parcel courier. Pallet orders are delivered kerbside by The Pallet Network (TPN), normally on an 18-tonne lorry with a tail lift.

If you need a smaller 7.5-tonne vehicle, your order must weigh no more than 720 kg. Select the Access Restrictions option at checkout and request the smaller vehicle in your order notes.
