  • Woodlets Briquettes

Three woodlets briquettes - Wood Fuel Coop

100% natural, premium-grade heat logs from sustainable British sources, Woodlets Briquettes are a great choice for general burning.

    Woodlets Briquettes

Woodlets Briquettes are 100% natural, premium-grade heat logs from sustainable British sources

    Made from:

Woodlets Briquettes are made from mixed softwoods, compressed into dense, chunky heat logs. The sawdust comes from sustainably managed British forests.

Woodlets Briquettes Ready To Burn logo - Wood Fuel Co-operative

    Burning characteristics:

Each briquette weighs around 1.67kg, and is perfect for all stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 1.5 – 2 hours. The rounded square shape is practical and popular because it stops the heat log from rolling on the fire. Because they’re easy to break they can be used on all sizes of stove or open fire.

    Perfect for:

Suitable for both stoves and open fires, Woodlets Briquettes produce great heat with an excellent flame. Be careful if using them full size though – they expand approximately 30% of their length whilst burning. Always break in half and use half at a time (except for starting where you would use three half briquettes) until you get used to their burning characteristics.

Woodlets Briquettes are certified Ready to Burn and they comply with the Clean Air Act – in fact, they exceed it! This also means they’re suitable to use in Smokeless Zones on DEFRA-approved appliances. An image of the UK flag

Ready to Burn is a UK Government certification that means that the heat logs have passed rigorous chemical analyses and meet FSC standards. So you can rest assured that they are safe, sustainable and clean-burning.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. Made from pure, untreated wood by-product, Woodlets Briquettes compression alone holds them together.

  • Beech Nestro

Sale! beech nestro quality briquette woodsure woodfuel cooperative

Fine Beech sawdust grindings; dense and very clean. The best briquette in our range.

    Beech Nestro

    Made from:

Beech Nestro are made in Germany from pure beech grindings, which are very fine and so produce a dense, dust-free briquette. The beech sawdust comes from a company producing high-end beech products and structures. These Beech Nestro are quite simply the best briquette we have ever found – probably the best briquette in the world. Two will last up to four hours with excellent heat and flame characteristics. They generate a consistent heat in the stove temperature ‘sweet spot’ so you don’t have to be up and down loading the stove or adjusting the air flow.

    How to use:

On my 5kw stove two Beech Nestro briquettes will last around four hours. Here is how I use them. Crack one Beech Nestro in half by holding it at each end and bringing it down sharply over the back of a neighbouring briquette or other hard surface (not your hearth or it may break your hearth). They are pretty tough so you can only easily break into half. More than that requires a hammer. Whilst you are at it, crack another into half so now you have four halves. Lay two halves in the bottom of your stove in an open ‘V’. In the centre of the ‘V’ place a lit firelighter and a pickle of kindling (5 or 6 sticks). On top of the kindling place another half of Beech Nestro so that the broken end can catch the flames from the kindling. Open the air vents fully. After about 10 to 15 minutes you will have a good fire going. Start to reduce the air flow accordingly. Those three ‘half briquettes’ will burn for about 2 hours and give off an excellent heat. Your stove thermometer should be reading around 200C. When you require more heat or flame place the remaining half briquette on the hot embers and that will burn for another 1.5 to 2 hours. Note: All stoves and flues are different so may burn faster or slower than mine. What works in my stove may not work in your stove, so proceed with care and be sure not to overload your fire.

    Burning characteristics:

Each chunky log weighs around 2.5kg, so they’re great for bigger stoves. For smaller stoves, just break them into half before using. This is easy to do, – break them by sharply tapping two of the heat logs together. They’re very highly compressed, so they produce no dust and this density helps them burn for several hours. Best of all, they also produce huge amounts of heat with an attractive flame. They expand by about 20% as they burn, so place them across the firebox and just use small amounts until you’re confident with their burning characteristics on your particular stove or fire.

These are the best briquette we’ve ever stocked – they give great heat, very clean burning and are dust free, so they’re much better for people with asthma.

    Perfect for:

Great for both stoves and open fires.  For most stoves we recommend breaking them in half, as they will expand a little while burning.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

  • Croft Logs

NEW SIZE PRODUCT – shorter & denser – Croft Logs are an excellent, versatile briquette, ideal for all stages of your fire. Easy to light and long-burning.

    Croft Logs

    Made from:

Croft Logs are made from clean, mixed dried softwood without binders.

    Burning characteristics:

Croft Logs are a very versatile briquette. They are multi purpose – they break into sections to enable easy lighting, while the half or full briquettes make an excellent main fuel. They are ideal for creating fast heat, as they get up to temperature very quickly.

Croft Logs expand lengthways as they burn, so remember to place them across the firebox, in order to prevent them touching the glass door or falling onto the hearth. We always recommend breaking them into half or smaller, as this makes them easier to control as they burn.

    Croft Logs are perfect for:

The main fuel for a day or evening burn and are also great broken up into small pieces and used to light the fire.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

UK RUF briquettes are a dense mixed soft/hard wood briquette, produced in England.

An image of the UK flag

They’re an attractive dark honey colour and very well-compressed.

Because they’re square, RUF blocks don’t roll in the hearth, so they’re easy and safe to use in an open fire.

    Burning characteristics:

Giving out a steady heat with a nice flame, these are really easy-to-use-briquettes. They burn for around two hours depending on airflow and give off good heat for the duration of their burn time.

    UK RUF are Perfect for:

UK RUF are great to get the fire going, used as a ‘heat sink’ in the back of the fire, where they will glow for a couple of hours and help create a really good heart in your fire. Many people also use RUF blocks as a sole fuel throughout the burn. However, they do not generate the high and consistent heat of something like Pini-Kay or Beech Nestro. They are a handy size so are excellent on a smaller stove or open fire.

Our briquettes are all additive-free. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

Oak Pini-Kay are a hardwood pini-kay, but longer and skinnier in shape than the traditional product. They are 32cm long, and thinner than standard pini-kay.

    Burning characteristics:

Oak Pini-Kay do not expand, so they are great for an open fire, producing a beautiful flame and holding their shape well. Due to their narrower construction they are faster burning than standard Pini-Kay and are best suited to using to start the fire or to give a fast boost during the day.

Their very dense compression means that they are clean to handle and produce a lot of heat for their size.

    Oak Pini-Kay are perfect for:

Oak Pini-Kay are great as a starter fuel. Perfect for smaller stoves up to around 5kw. Ideal in open-fires, they are safe and easy to use as they do not expand. As a bonus, they look very attractive as they burn!

  • WillowWarm

Willow Warm Briquettes are made in Ireland from coppiced willow, compressed into short, dense heat logs, measuring 16cm by 7.5cm.

    WillowWarm Briquettes

WillowWarm are carbon neutral heat logs from sustainable Irish sources

    Made from:

WillowWarm Briquettes are made in Ireland from coppiced willow, compressed into short, dense heat logs, measuring 16cm by 7.5cm.

Willow is a Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) perennial crop, which means that once harvested, the crop is regrown. While most other crops must be ploughed, re-planted, or re-seeded on an annual basis, willow has a lifespan of about 36 years. Thus, once planted, willow provides 36 years of continuous crop production without the need for annual ploughing, re-seeding, or re-planting. Instead, it is simply re-harvested every two years, and the cycle continues, making it a sustainable option for wood fuel.

    Burning characteristics:

WillowWarm is perfect for all stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of up to 1.5 hours from each briquette. The rounded square shape is practical and popular because it stops the heat log from rolling on the fire.

    Perfect for:

Suitable for both stoves and open fires, WillowWarm Briquettes are a great size for most small to medium stoves and open fires, so do not need to be broken, which minimises mess and handling. They expand approximately 30% of their length whilst burning.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. Made from pure, untreated wood sawdust, WillowWarm Briquettes are held together by compression alone.

A stack of coffee logs - Wood Fuel Coop

Coffee Logs are made in England from waste coffee grounds mixed with sawdust. They are a dense, hot fuel with great environmental credentials.

Coffee Logs are an unique product, made in England from waste coffee grounds mixed with sawdust from local sawmills. The coffee grounds are collected from cafes, offices, factories, universities etc throughout the UK, repurposing a waste product.

An image of the UK flag

They’re very dense cobs and are a great, hot-burning fuel.

    Burning characteristics:

Coffee Logs burn long and slow under normal airflow conditions – more air will give a gentle flame and good heat. They perform very well mixed with other fuels.

    Coffee Logs are Perfect for:

We find Coffee Logs work well as a ‘heat sink’ in the back of the fire, where they give you a very steady, consistent heat. They create a really good heart in your fire. Their nice size – a small cob – makes them ideal for smaller stoves. They’re not an ideal starter, however; use them on an established fire instead. They are excellent on open fires.

  • Extralong Bark

extralong overnight bark logs woodsure ready to burn woodfuel cooperative

Chunky bark logs, made with a blend of softwood bark and white wood. Great slow daytime running. Perfect for keeping the fire in at lower temperatures for long periods.

    Extralong Bark

    Made from:

Extralong Bark Logs are are made from a mixture of clean dry softwood bark together with slow grown pine.
This combination provides an excellent balance between a long slow burn and a pleasant flame with good heat characteristics.
Bark produces much more ash than pure clean wood briquettes, but ash holds heat for longer and can be spread on your garden.
None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    Burning characteristics:

Extralong Bark Overnight Logs react quickly to air flow. They need to be used on an established fire, where they burn brightly with the stove vents open but quickly go into slumber mode with the air vents closed. In slumber mode they will last anywhere between four and eight hours depending on air flow and the quality of your stove; however, we do not recommend this as smouldering your fire builds up soot in your flue, while creating more air pollution than clean burning with open air vents. These briquettes do expand whilst burning so should be broken into smaller sections for small stoves.

Bark Extralong are perfect for extending the life of your fire either through the day or overnight.

  • Hotmax 20kg

Loose hotmax cobs with UK flag and Ready to Burn - Wood Fuel Coop

A handy UK made cob, ideal for starting the fire, reviving a dying fire, or as a main fuel for small stoves. Made from 100% by-product.

    Hotmax 20kg

    Made from:

Hotmax 20kg is made in the UK from softwood fines (sawdust and bark) extracted whilst making dust free horse bedding. The wood used is all from sustainably managed British forestry and the Hotmax cobs are made using a product that would have otherwise gone to landfill.

    Burning characteristics:

Two or three cobs will produce fast heat and flame, leaving a good ember base. Use a handful of Hotmax with a Waxling firelighter in the centre to get the fire going quickly. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth.

    Hotmax 20kg are perfect for:

Starting or reviving a fire. The fact that they’re a bit smaller than some of the other briquettes makes them great for quick heat and they’re brilliant for reviving a dying fire. They’re an ideal kindling replacement but can also be a main fuel in smaller stoves. The cobs come in a variety of sizes but larger ones can be broken if needed. They hold their shape well, so are clean to handle.

The briquetting industry uses plastic to wrap wood briquettes in order to ensure they stay dry, as damp briquettes break up and are unsuitable for burning. The environmental impact of our products is important to us, so we are constantly working with our suppliers to improve the sustainability of their packaging by using cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible.
