Small Stove Mix

From time to time we may substitute products with others that are equally suited to the small stove mix and of equal or greater value.

Made from:

  • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
  • Roastie Toasties are made from sustainable softwoods in Scotland
  • Croft Logs are short, cylindrical logs made from cleaned softwoods
  • Lewis Value RUF are pure, bark-free white pine RUF briquettes
  • BushBlok are pini-kay briquettes made from acacia scrub in Namibia by the Cheetah Conservation Fund
  • WillowWarm are short, ‘squircle’ shaped briquettes made in Ireland from sustainable willow coppicing

Burning characteristics:

  • Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
  • Roastie Toasties can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw. They can be variable in length with the longer briquettes being best for using as a main fuel whilst the shorter ones are best for use as a kindling.
  • Lewis Value RUF are best used as a ‘heat sink’ in the back of your fire where they will cook away for four or five hours. I use two stood on their long edge in an open ‘V’ with a good firelighter in the centre of the ‘V’ and a pickle of kindling (Hotmax or Roastie Toasties) in the centre. Place half of any other main fuel briquette across the top and you will maximise heat output and fire longevity together with minimising cost per kWh generated. For very small stoves, place one RUF flat on top of a few Roastie Toasties with a firelighter in the centre.
  • BushBlok are easily cracked into smaller sections if required, but they do not expand and so are easy to use on a small stove. They light easily and burn long and hot with an excellent flame. Highly suitable for the smaller stove of around 5kw. The bark content leaves more ash, which in turn helps with long burn time and they can often keep smaller stoves in overnight.
  • WillowWarm are an excellent main fuel and generate lots of heat over a long period together with a good flame.

Perfect for:

An easy to use mix of products that are ideal for a small stove. Easy to light and giving good heat over a long period, this mixture of briquettes will suit most small stoves.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

Packaging

All these briquettes come in a plastic outer. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities.

The briquetting industry uses plastic to wrap wood briquettes in order to ensure they stay dry, as damp briquettes break up and are unsuitable for burning. The environmental impact of our products is important to us, so we are constantly working with our suppliers to improve the sustainability of their packaging by using cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible.
