    Made from

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
    • UK Hardwood Briquettes are made from mixed hardwoods in England
    • Hardwood Pini-Kay are pini-kay briquettes made from pure hardwood
    • Hotmax are small cobs made in England from the dust and fines extracted during horse bedding production
    • Roastie Toasties are made from mixed softwoods
    • UK RUF are a dense softwood briquette made in England.
    • Woodlets Briquettes are made from mixed softwoods in Scotland

    Burning characteristics:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
    • Hardwood Pini-Kay are easily cracked into smaller sections if required, but they do not expand and so are easy to use on a small stove. They light easily and burn long and hot with an excellent flame. Highly suitable for the smaller stove of around 5kw. The bark content leaves more ash, which in turn helps with long burn time.
    • UK Hardwood Briquettes are easy to light and quick to reach a high operating temperature, which enables your stove to work at maximum efficiency. They burn with a lively flame to start with, then turn red hot and provide a good steady heat for a couple of hours. Everyday Value Briquettes will expand lengthways as they burn, so place them across your fire rather than pointing towards the hearth.
    • Hotmax are handy little cobs, two or three cobs will produce fast heat and flame, leaving a good ember base. Use a handful of Hotmax with a Waxling or Dr Heat firelighter in the centre to get the fire going quickly. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth.
    • Roastie Toasties can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw.
    • Woodlets Briquettes are perfect for all stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 1.5 – 2 hours. Because they’re easy to break they can be used on all sizes of stove or open fire.
    • UK RUF are a dense softwood RUF briquette. They will burn for around 1-2 hours.

    Perfect for:

An easy to use mix of products that are ideal for a small stove. Easy to light and giving good heat over a long period, this mixture of briquettes will suit most small stoves.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

These briquettes come in plastic wrapped packs. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities.

Each pack is plastic wrapped but not always fully sealed. They are not in waterproof packaging. There will often be gaps in the wrap, due to the wrapping process. The wrap is only there to hold the packs together, rather than to weatherproof them. Please take this into account when deciding where to store your briquettes.

Pallets will arrive wrapped in plastic to protect them during their journey. This plastic will temporarily protect them from inclement weather but is not suitable for outside storage. Please ensure you are able to cover/protect the pallet if you are not able to put it under cover immediately.

Pallet Orders are delivered by our partner couriers, Palletways, not our own drivers.

Your goods are delivered on a pallet, the footprint of which is usually approximately 1.2m x 1m. The height of the pallet depends on the products you’ve ordered but may be up to two metres high.

The maximum weight of a pallet is 980kg.

Our pallet courier will normally deliver your order on an 18 tonne lorry with a tail lift. This means the kerbside of your property must be accessible to a large vehicle. If a bin lorry can access the road then an 18 tonne lorry should be able to as well but it will be up to the driver to determine this.

If Palletways are unable to deliver to the kerbside of your property, for example because of access restrictions which mean a 7.5t vehicle will not be able to get to the property’s kerbside, we will need to put special delivery arrangements in place. These arrangements may incur additional charges, for which you, the customer, are responsible. If you think you may need alternative arrangements please let us know prior to ordering so we can get a quote for you.

For detailed information on pallet deliveries, please see our dedicated page.

    Express Packs:

Wood Fuel express pack orders are sent with APC, who offer a Next Working Day service to most of the UK. Some areas are on a 2-5 day service, so if you need your order urgently please check with us first.

We do not guarantee Next Working Day delivery, although we will always dispatch your order as quickly as possible to ensure it has the best chance of arriving when you need it. Orders placed after 12pm will generally be dispatched the next day, or on Monday if placed after 12pm on a Friday.

  • Waxling Firelighters

waxling wood wool firelighters natural firelighters woodfuel co-operative

Made from fine, kiln dried pine strands (wood wool) coated in candle wax, these dense little firelighters are clean, chemical free and odourless.

    Description

    Waxling Firelighters

    Made from:

Waxling Firelighters are made from fine, kiln dried pine strands (wood wool) coated in candle wax. They are 100% natural, chemical free and odourless, so no smell on your fingers after handling, and they’re completely safe to use.

    Burning characteristics:

A Waxling Firelighter burns for about 8-10 minutes, which is long enough to light any well-built wood fire. Because they’re densely bound, just one in the middle of a handful of cobs or kindlers lights easily. Sometimes you’ll find a Waxling that’s a bit too tightly bound – don’t worry, just twist it a little first to loosen the outer fibres.

There are a few wood wool lighters on the market but many of them are very poor quality, so you need to use a few of them per fire. Waxling Firelighters are one of the best we’ve found, because you only need to use one per fire, which makes them better value then the cheaper packs. They’re also more attractive and cleaner than many alternative brands. Our staff love them!

    Perfect for:

Waxling Firelighters are a clean, natural and very effective way of lighting any wood-based fire. Because they’re so attractive, they’re also a very popular gift item, especially at Christmas. You can use them year round to light barbecues, chimineas, firepits and pizza ovens as well.

    Packaging

Packaged in Perthshire, Scotland by a small family firm, Waxling Firelighters come in plastic bags of 40 firelighters.

The environmental impact of our products is important to us, so we are constantly working with our suppliers to improve the sustainability of their packaging by using cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible.

Woodlets biomass pellets are the UK’s leading brand of super premium grade wood pellets. Woodlets are produced in Scotland from 100% sustainable UK timber, are BSL registered and fully RHI compliant. We are registered with the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) and every purchase comes with a BSL compliant receipt.

Woodlets biomass pellets are only for use in biomass boilers and specialised pellet stoves; they are not suitable for use in wood burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves, or open fires.

Woodlets are also suitable for use in pellet-fired pizza ovens. These are softwood pellets but once pelletised, there is very little difference between soft and hardwoods. They have the same energy output as branded hardwood pellets but cost much less to buy. You can read about our personal experiences using Woodlets as pizza fuel here.

Woodlets are produced from FSC certified forestry. FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council. This ensures that the timber used is sourced from forestry which complies with strict social and economical responsibility standards. To read more about the Forest Stewardship Council, click here.

Woodlets are made in Ayrshire using timber from local forestry, reducing the distance that the raw materials have to travel to be processed. This helps us to drastically reduce our carbon footprint.

Current picture is not yet updated: we have substituted WillowWarm with Woodlets Briquettes and Log Boxes with 20kg Log Nets.

    Made from:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
    • Kindling are kiln-dried local, Scottish softwood.
    • Hotmax are small cobs made in England from the dust and fines extracted during horse bedding production.
    • Hardwood Pini-Kay are pini-kay briquettes made from pure Oak.
    • Woodlets Briquettes are made in Scotland from softwood forest thinnings.
    • Woodlets Heat Logs are large, dense cylindrical briquettes, made in Scotland using pure wood from sustainable UK timber
    • Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are clean, dry scottish mixed hardwoods cut to 9 inch.

    Burning characteristics:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
    • Kindling is a traditional way to start your fire.
    • Hotmax can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw. They can be variable in density with the harder denser briquettes being best for using as a main fuel whilst the softer lighter ones are best for use as a kindling.

    • Woodlets Heat Logs are perfect for all stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 1.5 – 2 hours. Because they’re easy to break they can be used on all sizes of stove or open fire.
    • Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are traditional and attactive on an open fire.

Open Fire Mix is Perfect for:

This mix is ideal for open fires, which can be greedy to feed compared with stoves. Open fires require fuel that expands only minimally to be sure it does not spill over into the hearth. All these briquettes have been selected on that basis. Please be sure to build you fire slowly and do not overload.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

Due to industry regulation changes, if you require a 7.5 tonne delivery vehicle the maximum pallet weight you can order is 720kgs. If you are unsure what vehicle size you need please phone us on 01387 731 210 to discuss your requirements.

Pallet Orders are delivered by our partner couriers, Palletways, not our own drivers.

Your goods are delivered on a pallet, the footprint of which is usually approximately 1.2m x 1m. The height of the pallet depends on the products you’ve ordered but may be up to two metres high.

The maximum weight of a pallet for non-restricted access deliveries is 980kg.

Our pallet courier will normally deliver your order on an 18 tonne lorry with a tail lift. This means the kerbside of your property must be accessible to a large vehicle. If a bin lorry can access the road then an 18 tonne lorry should be able to as well but it will be up to the driver to determine this.

A good guide is to expect the driver to leave your pallet where your bin goes out for collection.

If Palletways are unable to deliver to the kerbside of your property, for example because of access restrictions which mean a 7.5t vehicle will not be able to get to the property’s kerbside, we will need to put special delivery arrangements in place. Length of vehicle: 11 metres; Height of vehicle 4 metres. 18T & 7.5T vehicles are the same width.

The driver may not be able to access your road if there are:
    • low overhead lines or low hanging branches
    • low bridges or bridges with weight limits
    • narrow access roads that prevent the vehicle manoeuvering/turning

    Restricted Access
If you think that an 18 tonne lorry will not be able to access your road, we can ask Palletways to use a smaller vehicle. For this option, please ensure:
    • your order weighs no more than 720kg
    • you tick the ‘Access Restrictions’ button at checkout
    • you put in your order notes that you require a 7.5T vehicle

7.5T is the smallest vehicle we can request. If you’re not sure, please phone us on 01387 731 210 and we can check your access for you.

We recommend storing your briquettes indoors only.

      DO store your briquettes in:
      • Watertight shed
      • Dry garage
      • Porch or conservatory
      • Inside house
      • Dry outbuildings
      • Some plastic garden stores, as long as they are watertight
DO NOT store your briquettes in:
      • Traditional log stores
      • Uncovered, outdoor areas
      • Buildings that are damp or have high humiditiy levels
Traditional log stores are open or vented. This is because logs require airflow around them to keep them dry. Briquettes are already dry so if they are exposed to moisture they will start to expand. This makes them useless for burning. Storing your briquettes the right way is really important. A damp briquette will just turn back into sawdust!

    Packaging

To keep them in good condition, these briquettes come in plastic wrapped packs. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities. Packs are plastic wrapped but not always fully sealed, as the pakaging is there to hold the briquettes in place, not to waterproof them.

    Hotmax 10kg

    Made from:

Hotmax 10kg is made in the UK from softwood fines (sawdust and bark) extracted whilst making dust free horse bedding. The wood used is all from sustainably managed British forestry and the Hotmax cobs are made using a product that would have otherwise gone to landfill.

    Burning characteristics:

Two or three cobs will produce fast heat and flame, leaving a good ember base. Use a handful of Hotmax with a Waxling firelighter in the centre to get the fire going quickly. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth.

    Hotmax 10kg are perfect for:

Starting or reviving a fire. The fact that they’re a bit smaller than some of the other briquettes makes them great for quick heat and they’re brilliant for reviving a dying fire. They’re an ideal kindling replacement but can also be a main fuel in smaller stoves. The cobs come in a variety of sizes but larger ones can be broken if needed. They hold their shape well, so are clean to handle.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

We recommend storing your briquettes indoors only.

Storing Your Briquettes – The Basics: DO store your briquettes in:

    Made from:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
    • Hotmax are made from the waste fines (bark and wood) left over from the manufacture of horse bedding shavings.
    • Woodlets Heat Logs are large, dense cylindrical briquettes, made in Scotland using pure wood from sustainable UK timber
    • UK RUF  are a dense softwood briquette, made in England
    • Envi8 are made from clean, kiln-dried sawdust from a company in the USA that specialises in producing high quality fuels from sustainably sourced hardwoods. The sawdust is a byproduct from preparing the timber for other industries; hardwood trees are not felled specifically to make these briquettes. These large, dense briquettes are made from oak and hard maple.
    • Beech Nestro are made from fine ground pure beech sawdust generated as a by-product from furniture, floor and house frame manufacture.

    Burning characteristics:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
    • Hotmax can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw. They can be variable in density with the harder denser briquettes being best for using as a main fuel whilst the softer lighter ones are best for use as a kindling.
    • Woodlets Heat Logs are perfect for all stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 1.5 – 2 hours. Because they’re easy to break they can be used on all sizes of stove or open fire.
    • UK RUF  are really easy-to-use-briquettes. They burn for around 1 – 2 hours depending on airflow and give off a steady heat for the duration of their burn time.
    • Envi8 are perfect for larger stoves – they will be too big for many smaller stoves. Each block weighs around 1.5kg and they are impossible to break. Because of this, they give a long, hot burn on an established fire and are ideal for keeping large, greedy stoves going.
    • Beech Nestro are acclaimed by many to be the best briquette in Europe. They are made from pure beech hardwood ground to a fine particle size and densely compacted into 4 x 2.5kg briquettes per 10kg pack. They are exceptionally clean to handle even when broken. Burnt whole or cracked into smaller sections they generate a good flame and burn for several hours with a lovely hot glow. Truly the best main fuel briquette you will ever experience.

    Perfect for:

This mix is ideal for medium to large stoves, which can be greedy to feed. The main fuels are large enough to fill a big stove and give good long-burning times, but the Woodlets are also a very flexible briquette that can be used to light or in large sections for longer burning

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

For further information on delivery, please see our dedicated page.

An updated, simplified Premium Mix, which keeps it easy with top quality products. Great heat, attractive flames and long burn time from our premium briquettes.

Current picture is not yet updated: please see description for contents.

    Made from:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
    • Hotmax are made from the waste fines (bark and wood) left over from the manufacture of horse bedding shavings.

Premium Mix contains everything you need to run your stove, using pure wood products.  The combination of briquettes generates intense heat over several hours.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    UK Hardwood Briquettes

    Made from:

UK Hardwood Briquettes are a cylindrical briquette made from mixed hardwoods. They’re made in England using sawdust produced from the manufacture of hardwood mouldings for furniture. Each 5kg pack contains four briquettes that easily break into smaller sections if required.

    Burning characteristics:

They are easy to light and quick to reach a high operating temperature, which enables your stove to work at maximum efficiency. They burn with a lively flame and great heat and are a perfect starter briquette or a stand-alone briquette in smaller stoves.

A small, versatile hardwood briquette made in the UK. Easy to light with a high heat output; an ideal fuel for small stoves or for a quick flame and heat when using a dense long-burn briquette such as Beech Nestro.

    Perfect for:

They are ideal for stoves up to 5kw or for a quick starter flame and instant heat when using a large dense long-burn briquette such as Beech Nestro. Break them up into smaller pieces and place them around one firelighter for a quick and easy way to light the fire, or use as a main fuel in smaller stoves.

These are economy briquettes, not long-burners. They’re great for smaller stoves and for quickly heating up the room but they’re not an ideal main fuel for larger stoves. They’re not a replacement for Beech Nestro or Woodlets, but they are brilliant when used alongside longer-burning products.

They also need completely dry storage in order to keep them at their best.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    Cosy Nights In Express Bundle

Express Bundle Delivery – Next Working Day for most of Mainland UK*

A selection of our favourite products so you can enjoy a cosy fire using modern high performance wood briquettes.

    Description

    Cosy Nights In Express Bundle

Approx. 50kg in 3 x 10-20kg packages delivered to your door

Please note the contents may be different from time to time depending on what we have in stock.

We have gathered together a selection of our favourite products so you can enjoy a cosy fire using modern high performance wood briquettes.

    This Express Bundle consists of:

    • Dr Heat Firelighters x 1 box of 30
    • Hotmax x 10kg
    • Woodlets Briquettes x 10kg
    • Hardwood Pini-Kay x 10kg
    • Beech Nestro x 10kg
    • RUF Oak x 10kg

Dr Heat are carbon neutral firelighters made in England from miscanthus grass and recycled candle wax

Hotmax are also great broken up into small pieces and used to light the fire.

Woodlets Briquettes are ‘squircle’ (squared circle) shaped heat logs, made in Scotland using pure wood from sustainable UK timber.

Hardwood Pini-Kay are an excellent briquette that doesn’t expand and gives out great heat

Beech Nestro are from Germany and probably the world’s best wood fuel briquette. High compaction and fine particle size giving a long and hot burn time.

RUF Oak are a dense hardwood briquette

Our Cosy Nights In pack is suitable for large or small stoves, but please crack the larger briquettes into half for use in a smaller stove. As to burn time, it is impossible for us to predict as some people burn ’24/7′ whilst others burn ‘as and when required’. Also, some people have large greedy stoves and some have small highly efficient stoves. With any fuel that is new to you you just need to try it and work out which briquette suits your stove, flue and lifestyle. Do not load lots of briquettes onto your stove at one time as they burn hotter and longer than dry logs. Start slowly so you get to know the characteristics of the different briquettes.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    Burning characteristics:

These easy-to-use briquettes give out steady heat with an attractive flame. They burn longer and hotter than logs, and much cleaner than coal. If you currently use traditional logs this is a great opportunity to compare heat output, cleanliness and length of burn.

    Perfect for:

Ideal for a weekend’s wood-burning or if you have run out of dry logs and need wood fuel quickly.

    Packaging

Briquettes come in a plastic pack. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities.

Plastic is widely used for wrapping briquettes, in order to ensure that they stay dry, as a damp briquette will break up and be unsuitable for burning. The environmental impact of our products is important to us, so we work constantly with our suppliers to improve the sustainability of their packaging by encouraging the use of cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible.

    Burning characteristics:

Waxlings and Dr Heat are excellent natural, non-toxic firelighters

Roastie Toasties can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw.

Hotmax are perfect as a kindling replacement. They burn for twice the length of time for half the cost of kindling

RUF Oak burn for a few hours and are ideal when mixed with hotmax to start your fire

UK Hardwood Briquettes are an easy to break, small briquette, great for getting fast heat or reigniting a dying fire

Woodlets Briquettes and Heat Logs are a great general purpose briquette, ideal for all size stoves

Pini-Kay produce an excellent flame and lots of heat in smaller stoves. Good long ‘glow time’

Beech Nestro and ENVI 8 are our best quality densely made large briquettes, which burn hot over a long period.

Baby Beech are a smaller, slightly less dense version of the Beech Nestro

    Perfect for:

This wide and varied mix contains samples of the best modern high performance briquettes we supply.

    RUF Oak

    Description:

RUF Oak briquettes are an extremely dense briquette made predominantly from very fine oak grindings, mixed with some pine sawdust.

The RUF have a unique ‘bone’ shape, which gives better airflow.

Because they’re square, RUF blocks don’t roll in the hearth, so they’re easy and safe to use in an open fire.

    Burning characteristics:

Giving out a steady heat with a nice flame, these are really easy-to-use-briquettes. They burn for around two to four hours depending on airflow and give off good heat for the duration of their burn time.

    Perfect for:

RUF Oak are best used as a ‘heat sink’ in the back of the fire, where they will glow for several hours and help create a really good heart in your fire. Having said that though, many people use these as a sole fuel throughout the burn. They are a handy size so they’re excellent on a smaller stove or open fire, but they’re still chunky enough to give a really good burn time.

Our briquettes are all additive-free. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone. Trees are not felled specifically to make these briquettes; they are a by-product from other industries, such as hardwood flooring manufacture, furniture mouldings etc.

    Envi XL

    Made from:

Envi XL are made from clean, kiln-dried sawdust from a company in the USA that specialises in producing high quality fuels from sustainably sourced hardwoods. The sawdust is a byproduct from preparing the timber for other industries; hardwood trees are not felled specifically to make these briquettes. These exceptionally large, dense briquettes are made from oak and hard maple.

    Burning characteristics:

The huge size of Envi XL makes them ideal for larger stoves – they will be too big for many smaller stoves. They are unlikely to fit on a stove 4kw or smaller but check the measurements provided to be certain.

Larger than their little brother, the Envi8, each Envi XL weighs around 2.7kg and are impossible to break. They have little to no expansion when burning. Because of this, they give a long, hot burn on an established fire and are ideal for keeping large, greedy stoves going.

They are also suitable for burning overnight, with much less ash produced than RUF Bark bricks. Burn time will depend on your stove and air flow settings but some stoves will stay in overnight with these. However, we do not recommend smouldering (burning with low air flow) as it increases the particulates released into the atmosphere.

Please carefully check the provided measurements to ensure they will fit in your stove. They cannot be broken.

    Perfect for:

Best suited to long burning in stoves 5kw and over, these chunky briquettes can reduce the need to constantly feed a greedy stove.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

If Palletways are unable to deliver to the kerbside of your property, for example because of access restrictions which mean a 7.5t vehicle will not be able to get to the property’s kerbside, we will need to put special delivery arrangements in place. If you think you may need alternative arrangements please let us know prior to ordering so we can get a quote for you.

    Baby Beech

    Made from:

Baby Beech are made in Germany from pure beech grindings, which produce a dense, low dust briquette. The beech sawdust comes from a company producing high-end beech products and structures. These Baby Beech are the smaller brother of our bestselling Beech Nestro; made by the same company, they use slightly larger grindings to make a dense, clean short nestro.

    Burning characteristics:

Each heat log weighs around 1.5kg, making them ideal for smaller stoves. For the very smallest stoves, they can be broken in half. This is easy to do, – break them by sharply tapping two of the heat logs together. They’re very highly compressed, so they produce very little dust and this density helps them burn for a couple of hours. Best of all, they also produce huge amounts of heat with an attractive flame. They expand by about 25% as they burn, so place them across the firebox and just use small amounts until you’re confident with their burning characteristics on your particular stove or fire. They generate a consistent heat so you don’t have to be up and down loading the stove or adjusting the air flow.

    Perfect for:

Great for smaller stoves and open fires, or for people who don’t want to have to break the larger Beech Nestro in half.

    Packaging
