Goldies Heat Logs – Scottish Softwood Nestro Briquettes

Goldies are premium-grade softwood heat logs made from sawdust sourced from sustainably managed Scottish forests. Shorter than a standard Nestro, they’re particularly well suited to smaller stoves and open fires.

They produce excellent heat with an attractive flame, while the hole through the centre improves airflow and helps them burn evenly.

Delivery to most UK mainland postcodes is included in the pallet prices shown.

Please note that three-quarter and full pallets weigh more than 720kg and cannot be delivered on a smaller 7.5-tonne vehicle. These options require suitable access for an 18-tonne delivery vehicle.

What are Goldies Heat Logs made from?

Goldies are made from mixed softwood sawdust sourced from sustainably managed Scottish forests. The sawdust is compressed under high pressure to form short, dense Nestro heat logs.

They contain no chemicals, additives or artificial binders. The untreated wood by-product is held together by compression alone.

What are Goldies like to burn?

Goldies produce excellent heat with a lively, attractive flame.

The hole through the centre allows air to move through the log, helping it light and burn evenly. Their active burn time is approximately 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, although the actual time will depend on your stove, flue and airflow settings.

Are Goldies suitable for a small stove?

Yes. At approximately 20cm long, Goldies are a convenient choice for smaller stoves where a standard Nestro heat log may be too large.

They may fit into your stove without being broken, although they can be divided into smaller pieces when lighting the fire or when using them in a particularly compact firebox.

Leave enough room around the fuel for it to burn safely and don’t allow a heat log to press against the stove glass. Every stove is different, so always follow the appliance manufacturer’s instructions and take care not to overfill the firebox.

Can I use Goldies on an open fire?

Yes. Goldies are suitable for open fires as well as wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves.

Their compact size makes them easy to position. Add the heat logs gradually, place them well back from the front of the fire and leave enough room for the fuel to burn safely.

Don’t overload the fire, and always use a suitable fireguard.

Do I need to break Goldies before burning?

Goldies are shorter than standard Nestro heat logs, so they may fit into your stove without being broken.

However, you can break them into smaller pieces when starting the fire or if your stove has a particularly small firebox. Smaller pieces will generally light and release their heat more quickly.

Position the pieces carefully and leave enough room around them for air to circulate.

How do I light Goldies?

Place several smaller pieces around a natural firelighter, leaving enough space between them for air to circulate.

Light the firelighter and allow the smaller pieces to catch properly. Once the fire is established, add larger sections as required.

Avoid filling the firebox too tightly, as this can restrict airflow and make the fuel more difficult to burn efficiently.

Can Goldies be used in a Smoke Control Area?

Goldies can be used in a Smoke Control Area when burned in a DEFRA-approved appliance and in accordance with the appliance manufacturer’s instructions.

How should Goldies Heat Logs be stored?

Goldies must be kept completely dry.

A dry garage, watertight shed, porch, conservatory or dry outbuilding is suitable. The packs can also be stored inside your home or in a watertight plastic garden store.

Don’t keep them in a traditional open-sided log store, an uncovered outdoor area or a damp building. Heat logs are already very dry and readily absorb moisture. If they become damp, they’ll begin to expand and can eventually turn back into sawdust.

Is the packaging waterproof?

No. The packs are wrapped in plastic to hold the heat logs together, but the wrapping may have small gaps and shouldn’t be treated as waterproof.

The complete pallet is also plastic wrapped for protection during transport. This provides some temporary protection from poor weather during delivery, but it isn’t suitable for outdoor storage.

Please make sure you can move the packs under cover when they arrive. Check with your local authority to find out whether the plastic packaging can be recycled in your area.

Is delivery included?

Delivery to most UK mainland postcodes is included in the pallet prices shown. Some mainland and offshore addresses carry an additional surcharge, which you can check using our postcode and delivery information.

Your order will be delivered by our pallet courier, Palletline, rather than by one of our own vehicles. Delivery normally takes three to five working days for most areas, and someone must be there to receive it.

How will my pallet be delivered?

Delivery is made at the kerbside using a tail-lift vehicle and pallet truck.

The pallet footprint is normally approximately 1.2m × 1m. The driver needs a firm, flat and level surface on which to unload. A pallet truck can’t move safely over gravel, grass, slopes, steps or uneven ground.

Deliveries are normally made on an 18-tonne lorry. As a rough guide, if a bin lorry can reach your property, an 18-tonne delivery vehicle should be able to as well. The driver will make the final decision about whether it is safe to enter your road.

The pallet will normally be left at the kerbside or where your bins are placed for collection.

What if access to my property is restricted?

If you need a smaller 7.5-tonne vehicle, your order must weigh no more than 720kg.

A quarter or half pallet of Goldies can be carried on a 7.5-tonne vehicle. A three-quarter or full pallet is too heavy and requires suitable access for an 18-tonne vehicle.

A 7.5-tonne vehicle is the smallest delivery vehicle we can request. If you need one, select the Access Restrictions option at checkout and add a note asking for a 7.5-tonne vehicle.
