Traditional House Coal Doubles are a best-selling, top-grade Colombian house coal supplied in 25kg bags. They are easy to light and produce strong heat with a long, natural-looking flame.
This product is available for delivery in Scotland and Wales only. It is not available for delivery to addresses in England.
Traditional House Coal Doubles are not smokeless and must not be burned in a Smoke Control Area.
What are House Coal Doubles?
House Coal Doubles are pieces of traditional Colombian coal graded to a practical size for domestic fires.
They are smaller than House Coal Trebles, making them relatively quick to light and easy to manage on the fire.
What are they like to burn?
House Coal Doubles produce strong heat and burn with the long, lively flame traditionally associated with a coal fire.
They are easy to light and have a relatively low ash content, helping to make the fire easier to clean afterwards.
Actual heat output and burning time will depend on your fire, chimney or flue, airflow and the amount of coal used.
Where can I use House Coal Doubles?
House Coal Doubles are commonly used on open fires. They may also be suitable for appliances specifically designed to burn traditional house coal.
Always check the instructions supplied by the appliance manufacturer before use. Do not burn House Coal Doubles in an appliance designed only for wood or smokeless fuel.
Can they be used in a Smoke Control Area?
No. Traditional House Coal Doubles are not smokeless and must not be burned in a Smoke Control Area.
If you live in a Smoke Control Area, choose an approved smokeless fuel that is suitable for your appliance.

How should House Coal Doubles be stored?
Keep the bags in a dry, covered place such as a shed, garage or coal bunker.
Coal is less vulnerable to moisture than wood fuel, but keeping it covered helps prevent wet bags, mess and problems caused by the pieces freezing together during cold weather.
What quantities can I order?
Traditional House Coal Doubles are supplied in 25kg bags and are available in the following quantities:
- Mix Your Own Pallet: 1 × 25kg bag
- Quarter pallet: 10 × 25kg bags – 250kg
- Half pallet: 20 × 25kg bags – 500kg
- Three-quarter pallet: 30 × 25kg bags – 750kg
- Full pallet: 40 × 25kg bags – 1,000kg
Is delivery included?
Delivery to most eligible mainland Scotland and Wales postcodes is included in the pallet prices shown.
Some addresses carry an additional surcharge. Enter your postcode using our postcode checker to confirm the delivery charge for your address.
Pallet orders are delivered by Palletline. Standard delivery normally takes 2–3 working days from dispatch, although dispatch may take a little longer during busy periods. Someone must be present to receive the order.
How will my pallet be delivered?
Delivery is made at the kerbside using a tail-lift vehicle and manual pallet truck.
The delivery point must have a firm, flat and level surface. Pallets cannot be moved safely over gravel, grass, steep slopes, steps or uneven ground.
Deliveries are normally made on an 18-tonne vehicle. As a rough guide, if a bin lorry can reach your property, an 18-tonne delivery vehicle should normally be able to reach it too. The driver will make the final decision about whether access is safe.
The pallet will normally be left at the kerbside or where your bins are placed for collection.
What if access to my property is restricted?
A smaller 7.5-tonne vehicle can carry no more than 720kg. It may therefore be requested for a quarter or half pallet of House Coal Doubles.
The three-quarter pallet weighs 750kg and the full pallet weighs 1,000kg. Neither can be delivered on a 7.5-tonne vehicle, so both require suitable access for an 18-tonne delivery vehicle.
If you require the smaller vehicle, select the access-restrictions option at checkout and add your request to the order notes. A 7.5-tonne vehicle is the smallest delivery vehicle we can request.
