Steve’s Mini Mix is a carefully chosen selection of compact wood briquettes for 5kW and smaller stoves.
It’s a practical choice if you want a mixed pallet of wood briquettes for a smaller stove without ordering a full pallet of just one fuel.
The mixture includes quick-heat briquettes for getting the stove up to temperature, versatile everyday fuels and denser briquettes for a steadier, longer-lasting burn. Natural firelighters are included to help get you started.
Choose from a quarter, half or full pallet, depending on how much fuel you need and the storage space you have available.
This product arrives on a pallet. Delivery normally takes 3–5 working days for most areas, and you will need to be available to receive it.
Who is Steve’s Mini Mix for?
Steve’s Mini Mix is a good choice if:
- you have a 5kW or smaller stove;
- you prefer compact briquettes that fit easily into a smaller firebox;
- you want a mixture of quick-heat and longer-burning fuels;
- you would like several different briquettes on one pallet;
- you want conveniently sized packs that are easy to handle;
- you burn briquettes on their own or alongside kiln-dried logs.
Most of the briquettes can be placed straight into a smaller stove without being broken. UK Hardwood Briquettes are longer, but they separate easily by hand into smaller pieces.
Every stove, chimney and flue combination behaves differently. Begin with a small amount of fuel and adjust the quantity and airflow to suit your appliance.

The stated weights include the small additional weight of the firelighters and are approximate. Individual pack weights can vary slightly.
We may occasionally adjust the selection according to stock availability. If a product is unavailable, we will replace it with a suitable alternative while maintaining the character of the mix and approximately the stated total weight.
What are the different briquettes like to burn?
Firelighting and quick heat
Dr Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried miscanthus grass and candle wax. They light easily and burn for approximately ten minutes, helping good, dry kindling catch fire.
Hotmax and UK Hardwood Briquettes light readily and produce heat quickly. They are useful for bringing a cold stove up to temperature or reviving a fire that has started to die down.
Both briquettes expand as they burn. Start with a small amount, position them across the fire and leave sufficient room inside the firebox.
Versatile everyday fuels
Goldies are compact softwood heat logs made from sawdust sourced from sustainably managed Scottish forests. Their shorter length makes them particularly useful in smaller fireboxes.
They produce strong heat with an attractive flame and can be used as a versatile everyday fuel. Goldies expand slightly while burning, so use one at a time initially and position it across the fire.
WillowWarm briquettes are made in Ireland from renewable coppiced willow. Their compact size makes them convenient for small and medium-sized stoves.
They produce excellent heat with an attractive flame and have an active burn time of up to approximately 1.5 hours. WillowWarm expands while burning, so start with a small amount and leave plenty of room around the briquettes.
Steady, longer-lasting heat
Hardwood Pini-Kay briquettes are made from densely compressed oak and beech sawdust. They produce excellent heat with an attractive flame, followed by a long-lasting glow.
Pini-Kay holds its shape well and does not expand significantly, making it particularly straightforward to use in a smaller stove.
OKO RUF briquettes are dense mixed-wood blocks that provide steady heat for approximately two to four hours, depending on the appliance and airflow.
Their compact square shape makes them easy to position in smaller stoves. They can be used as the main fuel or placed towards the back of the fire to help maintain a deep, lasting bed of heat.
OKO RUF may expand while burning, so do not pack the firebox too tightly. Leave enough space around the briquettes and begin with a small quantity until you know how they behave in your stove.
How do I use Steve’s Mini Mix?
Light your stove using a Dr Heat Firelighter and good, dry kindling, following the instructions supplied with your appliance.
Add Hotmax or a piece of UK Hardwood Briquette to establish a lively flame and bring the stove up to temperature. Once the fire is burning well, add Goldies, WillowWarm, Hardwood Pini-Kay or OKO RUF for a steadier burn.
Do not overfill a small firebox. Add one briquette at a time until you are familiar with how each product behaves in your stove.
Some briquettes expand while burning. Position these across the fire rather than pointing towards the stove glass, and always leave sufficient room for expansion.
Can I use these briquettes on an open fire?
Yes. The briquettes included in Steve’s Mini Mix can be used on suitable open fires as well as wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves.
Some products expand while burning, so begin with a small quantity and leave plenty of room around the fuel. Take particular care that expanding briquettes cannot move towards the edge of the grate.
Always use a suitable fireguard and follow the instructions for your appliance.
Do the briquettes contain additives?
Our wood briquettes are made from clean, untreated wood by-product. They contain no artificial additives, chemicals or binders and are held together by compression.
How should I store the briquettes?
Wood briquettes must be kept completely dry. Suitable storage places include:
- a dry garage;
- a watertight shed;
- a porch or conservatory;
- a dry outbuilding;
- inside the house;
- a watertight plastic garden store.
Do not keep briquettes in an open-sided log store, uncovered outdoor area or damp building. Briquettes are already very dry and will absorb moisture if they are not properly protected.
Individual packs are wrapped to hold the briquettes together, but the packaging is not waterproof. The pallet wrapping provides temporary protection during delivery and is not suitable for outdoor storage.
Please make sure you can move the packs under cover when your pallet arrives.
How will my pallet be delivered?
Steve’s Mini Mix is delivered kerbside by Palletline, normally on an 18-tonne vehicle with a tail lift.
The driver uses a manual pallet truck, so the delivery point must be firm, flat and level. Pallets cannot be moved safely over gravel, grass, steep slopes, steps or uneven ground.
Delivery is included to most mainland UK addresses, although some locations carry a surcharge. Delivery normally takes 3–5 working days for most areas, and someone must be available to receive the order.
A smaller 7.5-tonne vehicle can carry no more than 720kg. It may therefore be requested for the quarter or half pallet, but it cannot be used to deliver the full pallet.
If you require a 7.5-tonne vehicle, select the access-restrictions option at checkout and add your request to the order notes. This is the smallest delivery vehicle we can request.
