Steve’s Mini Mix

Designed with 5kw stoves in mind, this pallet is a carefully selected mix of briquettes that suit smaller stoves or don’t need breaking. Keep it easy and mess free!

Made from:

  • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
  • Hotmax are small, dense softwood cobs made in England from the fines extracted when making dust-free horse bedding
  • UK Hardwood Briquettes are small, easy to break cylinders made in England by a company producing hardwood furniture
  • UK RUF are a dense, premium quality RUF briquette made in Hereford from sustainable softwoods
  • Baby Beech are made from pure beech sawdust generated as a by-product from furniture, floor and house frame manufacture.
  • Goldies are short nestros with a hole, made in Scotland from sustainable softwoods
  • Pini Kay are high quality hardwood briquettes made in the Netherlands

Burning characteristics:

  • Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
  • UK Hardwood Briquettes and Hotmax are easy to light and quick to reach a high operating temperature, which enables your stove to work at maximum efficiency. They burn with a lively flame to start with, then turn red hot and provide a good steady heat for an hour or so. Both will expand lengthways as they burn, so place them across your fire rather than pointing towards the hearth.
  • UK RUF are really easy-to-use-briquettes. They burn for around 1 – 2 hours depending on airflow and give off a steady heat for the duration of their burn time. Ideal for starting the fire alongside Hotmax or UK Hardwood.
  • Baby Beech are the smaller brother of our acclaimed Beech Nestro. They are made from pure beech hardwood sawdust densely compacted into 4 x 1.5kg briquettes per 6kg pack. Shorter than Beech Nestro, they do not need to be broken for 5kw stoves and larger. They burn hot with some expansion, so don’t use more than one at a time. You should expect 1-2 hours burning time from each briquette.
  • Goldies are a new product in the Woodlets range. They are short and burn beautifully with good heat output and burn time. Use one at a time as your main fuel for great flames and heat.
  • Pini Kay are a lovely, easy to use briquette. They don’t expand, which makes them simple to use and they put out a lot of heat for their size. Beautiful flame with a long glow time, they are a great main fuel.

How to use Steve’s Mini Mix

Start off with two of the UK RUF briquettes in an open v shape, this will create a heart in your fire.

Place a lit firelighter in the centre of the two UK RUF.

Break up one UK Hardwood Briquette into four sections and place these round the firelighter.

Open the air vents fully for the UK Hardwood to get well alight, but monitor the air flow so it doesn’t get out of control.

After half an hour or so, place a single Pini Kay OR Goldies OR Baby Beech on top of the well-lit UK Hardwood/ Hotmax. Be careful to place it across the fire, so the end is not facing the glass, as the two round (nestro) briquettes will expand slightly as it burns. This should last over an hour before needing more  To maximise burn time, do not prod the fire with a poker.

Steve’s Mini Mix is perfect for:

Stoves that are 5kw or smaller. WIth the exception of UK Hardwood, none of these briquettes need to be broken to use; the UK Hardwood are very easy to break by hand though, and come in easy to handle 5kg packs.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

Delivery

Pallets

All prices shown include the cost of mainland UK delivery. For offshore addresses, you can check if surcharges apply using our postcode checker

Pallet Orders are delivered by our partner couriers, Palletways, not our own drivers.

Your goods are delivered on a pallet, the footprint of which is usually approximately 1.2m x 1m. The height of the pallet depends on the products you’ve ordered but may be up to two metres high.

The maximum weight of a pallet is 980kg.

Our pallet courier will normally deliver your order on an 18 tonne lorry with a tail lift. This means the kerbside of your property must be accessible to a large vehicle. If a bin lorry can access the road then an 18 tonne lorry should be able to as well but it will be up to the driver to determine this.

If Palletways are unable to deliver to the kerbside of your property, for example because of access restrictions which mean a 7.5t vehicle will not be able to get to the property’s kerbside, we will need to put special delivery arrangements in place. These arrangements may incur additional charges, for which you, the customer, are responsible. If you think you may need alternative arrangements please let us know prior to ordering so we can get a quote for you.

For detailed information on pallet deliveries, please see our dedicated page.

Storing Your Briquettes

We recommend storing your briquettes indoors only.

DO store your briquettes in:
    • Watertight shed
    • Dry garage
    • Porch or conservatory
    • Inside house
    • Dry outbuildings
    • Some plastic garden stores, as long as they are watertight
DO NOT store your briquettes in:
    • Traditional log stores
    • Uncovered, outdoor areas
    • Buildings that are damp or have high humiditiy levels
Traditional log stores are open or vented. This is because logs require airflow around them to keep them dry. Briquettes are already dry so if they are exposed to moisture they will start to expand. This makes them useless for burning. Storing your briquettes the right way is really important. A damp briquette will just turn back into sawdust!

Packaging

To keep them in good condition, these briquettes come in plastic wrapped packs. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities. Packs are plastic wrapped but not always fully sealed, as the pakaging is there to hold the briquettes in place, not to waterproof them. Please take this into account when deciding where to store your briquettes. Pallets will arrive wrapped in plastic to protect them during their journey. This plastic will temporarily protect them from inclement weather but is not suitable for outside storage. Please ensure you are able to cover/protect the pallet if you are not able to put it under cover immediately.
