Windy weather and stove management

Gusts of 60+ mph have been rattling the roof tiles today – and the chimney has been roaring as it sucks the flames upwards! This made it very easy to get the stove going but very rapidly it was burning much hotter than I wanted…and was proving hard to slow down.

This is when having a variety of different fuels on hand starts to pay off. Ususally I burn the Verdo logs to get a sustained heat through the day – but today they were producing so much heat that even the dog had to move away from the fireside. So this is when the SWF sawdust cobs really came into their own: turned down as soon as they’d got glowing, they chugged away happily all day, keeping up a steady heat.
