    Economy Mix

Get the most out of your stove without breaking the bank. We’ve selected our most economic products, with the lowest pence per kilo, in quantities that will work brilliantly on your stove.

    Made from:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
    • Kindling is made in Scotland from kiln dried softwoods
    • Roastie Toasties are pre-snapped Woodlets
    • Woodlets Briquettes are made from mixed softwoods, compressed into dense, chunky heat logs. The sawdust comes from sustainably managed British forests.
    • Lewis Value RUF is a chunky RUF block made from white pine

    Burning characteristics:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
    • Kindling is a traditional way to start your fire. You only need three or four sticks and a firelighter to get a good flame going.
    • Roastie Toasties can be used as a kindling to light or revive any fire. Being quite small they also make an ideal main fuel for small stoves under 5kw. They can be variable in length with the longer briquettes being best for using as a main fuel whilst the shorter ones are best for use as a kindling.
    • Woodlets Briquettes are perfect for all stoves and open fires with each briquette weighing around 1.6kg. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 1.5 to 2 hours. The unique square shape is practical and popular because it stops the heat log from rolling on the fire. Because they’re easy to break they can be used on all sizes of stove or open fire.
    • Lewis Value RUF is ideal used in a V to start the fire, with a few sticks of kindling or Roastie Toasties. They burn for a couple of hours and give excellent heat out.

    Economy Mix is perfect for:

  • Lewis RUF – New improved compression

    Sale!

Lewis RUF briquettes are a good general purpose briquette. Made in Nova Scotia, Canada from slow growing Eastern White Pine sawdust.

    Lewis RUF

    Description:

New improved-manufacture Lewis RUF briquettes are a good general purpose briquette. Made in Nova Scotia, Canada from slow growing Eastern White Pine sawdust, these are great value.

Because they’re square, RUF blocks don’t roll in the hearth, so they’re easy and safe to use in an open fire.

    Burning characteristics:

Giving out a steady heat with a nice flame, these are really easy-to-use-briquettes. They burn for around two to three hours depending on airflow and give off good heat for the duration of their burn time.

    Perfect for:

Lewis RUF are best used as a ‘heat sink’ in the back of the fire, where they will glow for a couple of hours and help create a really good heart in your fire. Having said that though, many people use Lewis RUF as a sole fuel throughout the burn. They are a handy size so they’re excellent on a smaller stove or open fire, but they’re still chunky enough to give a really good burn time.

Our briquettes are all additive-free. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    Made from:

Manufactured by the same company behind our best selling Woodlets Briquettes, the new larger Heat Logs are made from mixed softwoods, compressed into dense, large heat logs with a hole in the centre to encourage airflow. The sawdust comes from sustainably managed British forests.

    Burning characteristics:

Each briquette weighs around 2.2kg, and is perfect for all stoves and open fires. Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of 1.5 – 2 hours. Because they’re easy to break they can be used on all sizes of stove or open fire.

Suitable for both stoves and open fires, Woodlets Heat Logs produce great heat with an excellent flame. Unlike the Woodlets Briquettes sister-product, there is minimal expansion whilst burning. It’s still best to break in half and use half at a time (except for starting where you would use three half briquettes) until you get used to their burning characteristics.

Woodlets Heat Logs are certified Ready to Burn and they comply with the Clean Air Act – in fact, they exceed it! This also means they’re suitable to use in Smokeless Zones on DEFRA-approved appliances.

    Sale!

BushBlok are produced by the Cheetah Conservation Fund, and are made from hardwood bush encroaching on cheetah habitat in Namibia, the Cheetah capital of the world. They are sustainable; directly benefit cheetah conservation; and are one of the best Pini-Kay we’ve ever had.

    BushBlok Pini-Kay

BushBlok Pini-Kay are made from:BushBlok logo

BushBlok are produced by the Cheetah Conservation Fund, and are made from hardwood bush encroaching on cheetah habitat in Namibia, the Cheetah capital of the world.

Cheetah are sight hunters and require plenty of open space in order to survive. They cannot chase their prey through thorn and scrub, which is why the Cheetah Conservation Fund clear the encroaching scrub. The waste from this process produces BushBlok.

BushBlok are sustainable; directly benefit cheetah conservation; and are one of the best Pini-Kay we’ve ever had. We’re delighted to welcome them back to our range.

    Cheetah Conservation Fund logo

    Burning characteristics:

BushBlok do not expand, so they are great for an open fire, producing a beautiful flame and then glowing red hot like a bar of steel. They last a long time and generate a considerable amount of heat relative to their size. Easy to break up, use them at any stage of your fire, from kindling to long daytime burning. BushBlok are suitable for using on their own, but can also be mixed with other briquettes or logs.

Their very dense compression means that they are clean to handle and produce a lot of heat for their size.

    BushBlok Pini-Kay are perfect for:

Bushblok are great all-rounders. Perfect for smaller stoves up to around 6kw. Half a pack should provide a full evening’s burn giving plenty of steady heat and a great flame. Break them into smaller sections and they are easy to light, or use them whole for long daytime burning. Ideal in open-fires, they are safe and easy to use as they do not expand. As a bonus, they look very attractive as they burn!

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

  • Hotmax 20kg

    Sale!

A handy UK made cob, ideal for starting the fire, reviving a dying fire, or as a main fuel for small stoves. Made from 100% by-product.

    Hotmax 20kg

    Made from:

Hotmax 20kg is made in the UK from softwood fines (sawdust and bark) extracted whilst making dust free horse bedding. The wood used is all from sustainably managed British forestry and the Hotmax cobs are made using a product that would have otherwise gone to landfill.

    Burning characteristics:

Two or three cobs will produce fast heat and flame, leaving a good ember base. Use a handful of Hotmax with a Waxling firelighter in the centre to get the fire going quickly. They do expand slightly, so place them carefully in the fire so they don’t expand onto the glass window or hearth.

    Hotmax 20kg are perfect for:

Starting or reviving a fire. The fact that they’re a bit smaller than some of the other briquettes makes them great for quick heat and they’re brilliant for reviving a dying fire. They’re an ideal kindling replacement but can also be a main fuel in smaller stoves. The cobs come in a variety of sizes but larger ones can be broken if needed. They hold their shape well, so are clean to handle.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

  • WillowWarm

    Sale!

Perfect for small stoves, WillowWarm Briquettes are made from coppiced willow, compressed into short, dense heat logs. They burn for a long time, give great heat and have a very attractive flame.

    WillowWarm Briquettes

WillowWarm are carbon neutral heat logs that deliver huge heat

    Made from:

WillowWarm Briquettes are made in Ireland from coppiced willow, compressed into short, dense heat logs, measuring 16cm by 7.5cm.

Willow is a Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) perennial crop, which means that once harvested, the crop is regrown. While most other crops must be ploughed, re-planted, or re-seeded on an annual basis, willow has a lifespan of about 36 years. Thus, once planted, willow provides 36 years of continuous crop production without the need for annual ploughing, re-seeding, or re-planting. Instead, it is simply re-harvested every two years, and the cycle continues, making it a sustainable option for wood fuel.

    Burning characteristics:

WillowWarm is perfect for smaller stoves and open fires. Its short length means it does not have to be broken, so it is clean, mess free and extremely easy to use. The blocks are very densely pressed, meaning you get an excellent burn time from them and they burn with a very attractive flame.

Generating excellent heat with an attractive flame, you can expect an active burn time of up to 1.5 hours from each briquette. The rounded square shape is practical and popular because it stops the heat log from rolling on the fire.

    Perfect for:

Suitable for both stoves and open fires, WillowWarm Briquettes are a great size for most small to medium stoves and open fires, so do not need to be broken, which minimises mess and handling. They expand approximately 30% of their length whilst burning.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. Made from pure, untreated wood sawdust, WillowWarm Briquettes are held together by compression alone.

    Packaging

WillowWarm come in plastic wrapped packs. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities.

  • Dr Heat Firelighters

A box of Dr Heat Firelighters - Wood Fuel Co-operative

Dr Heat Firelighters are carbon neutral firelighters made from UK grown Miscanthus grass, which is coated in candle wax.

    Dr Heat Firelighters

    Made from:

Dr Heat Firelighters are carbon neutral firelighters. Made from UK grown Miscanthus grass which is coated in lightly scented candle wax. They are 100% natural, 100% UK made and in cardboard packaging. The colour varies from natural to red or purple, depending on the wax being used. The wax comes from a factory making scented candles and is a waste product that would otherwise end up in landfill. The lighters have a pleasant scent. The production facility is run by solar panels. All packaging materials are 100% recyclable cardboard.

    Burning characteristics:

A Dr Heat Firelighter lights first time, every time and burns for about 10 minutes, which is long enough to light any well-built wood fire. Easy to light.

    Perfect for:

A clean, natural and very effective way of lighting any wood-based fire. You can use them year round to light firepits, stoves and open fires. For cooking appliances; pizza ovens, BBQs etc, we recommend our unscented Waxling Firelighters.

    What is Miscanthus?

Miscanthus is a high yielding grass, grown specifically for energy production. Dr Heat’s crops are grown in Somerset and harvested in the Spring when they are naturally ripe. This reduces the need for further drying and removes the use of fossil fuels to do so.

Each tonne of Miscanthus burnt instead of coal, will prevent the emission of up to two tonnes of carbon dioxide. An additional benefit of growing Miscanthus is its ability to actively sequester carbon within the crop’s rhizomes. Miscanthus grows again each your from its extensive and expanding rhizome structure, so no need for annual planting with the associated additional carbon footprint.

Miscanthus is recognised as the number one energy crop by the biggest power producers in the UK. It is a carbon neutral replacement for coal.

  • Kiln Dried Birch Log Crates

    Sale!

    MAINLAND DELIVERY INCLUDED

Pure, hardwood Birch, kiln dried logs, cut to 10 inch lengths. Supplied in wooden crates. Woodsure Ready to Burn Certified.

    Kiln Dried Birch Logs

Pure Birch hardwood kiln dried logs

Top quality kiln dried hardwood logs, dried to 12-18% moisture content. These logs are shipped in woodens crates wrapped in plastic, to ensure they arrive with you dry and in perfect condition.

    Made from:

    Pure Birch hardwood

    Burning characteristics:

Easy to light, producing a quick and attractive flame. Hot and faster burning than Ash, but great value. Like all logs, these kiln dried logs have great ‘character’ in the fireplace.

    Perfect for:

Day to day burning on all but the very smallest of stoves. Great for open fires. Clearly they are not going to burn as long, hot or as economically as our best briquettes, but they do look attractive. We sometimes use logs during the shoulder months when less heat is required and we don’t mind stoking the fire as frequently.

  • Waxling Firelighters Bag of 40

waxling wood wool firelighters natural firelighters woodfuel co-operative

Made from fine, kiln dried pine strands (wood wool) coated in candle wax, these dense little firelighters are clean, chemical free and odourless.

    Waxling Firelighters

    Made from:

Waxling Firelighters are made from fine, kiln dried pine strands (wood wool) coated in candle wax. They are 100% natural, chemical free and odourless, so no smell on your fingers after handling, and they’re completely safe to use.

    Burning characteristics:

A Waxling Firelighter burns for about 8-10 minutes, which is long enough to light any well-built wood fire. Because they’re densely bound, just one in the middle of a handful of cobs or kindlers lights easily. Sometimes you’ll find a Waxling that’s a bit too tightly bound – don’t worry, just twist it a little first to loosen the outer fibres.

There are a few wood wool lighters on the market but many of them are very poor quality, so you need to use a few of them per fire. Waxling Firelighters are one of the best we’ve found, because you only need to use one per fire, which makes them better value then the cheaper packs. They’re also more attractive and cleaner than many alternative brands. Our staff love them!

    Perfect for:

Waxling Firelighters are a clean, natural and very effective way of lighting any wood-based fire. Because they’re so attractive, they’re also a very popular gift item, especially at Christmas. You can use them year round to light barbecues, chimineas, firepits and pizza ovens as well.

    Packaging

Packaged in Perthshire, Scotland by a small family firm, Waxling Firelighters come in plastic bags of 40 firelighters.

The environmental impact of our products is important to us, so we are constantly working with our suppliers to improve the sustainability of their packaging by using cardboard in place of plastic wherever possible.

Woodlets biomass pellets are only for use in biomass boilers and specialised pellet stoves; they are not suitable for use in wood burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves, or open fires.

Woodlets are also suitable for use in pellet-fired pizza ovens. These are softwood pellets but once pelletised, there is very little difference between soft and hardwoods. They have the same energy output as branded hardwood pellets but cost much less to buy. You can read about our personal experiences using Woodlets as pizza fuel here.

Woodlets are produced from FSC certified forestry. FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council. This ensures that the timber used is sourced from forestry which complies with strict social and economical responsibility standards. To read more about the Forest Stewardship Council, click here.

Woodlets are made in Ayrshire using timber from local forestry, reducing the distance that the raw materials have to travel to be processed. This helps us to drastically reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Open Fire Mix

    Sale!

A selection of our finest briquettes designed specifically to be burnt on open fires where a lively flame, excellent heat and low expansion are important.

    Open Fire Mix

    Made from:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters are made in the UK from dried chopped miscanthus grass soaked in scented candle wax waste from a candle manufacturing factory.
    • Kindling are kiln-dried local, Scottish softwood
    • Roastie Toasties are pre-snapped Woodlets briquettes, ideal as a long-burning kindling. They vary in length.
    • BushBlok are a pini-kay briquette, made in Namibia from scrub cleared by the Cheetah Conservation Fund.
    • WillowWarm are excellent, short cut briquettes made from coppiced willow in Ireland
    • Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are clean, dry birch, cut to 10 inches

    Burning characteristics:

    • Dr. Heat Firelighters light easily and burn for about ten minutes, easily setting light to any good dry kindling. We like the fact they are a UK product and a highly effective, easy to use lighter.
    • Kindling is a traditional way to start your fire.
    • Roastie Toasties are great for starting the fire, and longer ones can be used as a main fuel.
    • BushBlok produce an excellent flame for half and hour or so, after which they glow long and hot for several hours producing a good heart in your fire. Easy to light and quickly give you a rewarding flame and heat.
    • WillowWarm are short, dense briquettes, which burn with a lovely flame and heat.
    • Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are traditional and attactive on an open fire.

Open Fire Mix is Perfect for:

This mix is ideal for open fires, which can be greedy to feed compared with stoves. Open fires require fuel that expands only minimally to be sure it does not spill over into the hearth. All these briquettes have been selected on that basis. Please be sure to build you fire slowly and do not overload.

None of our briquettes contain additives or chemicals. They are made from pure, untreated wood by-product and are held together by compression alone.

    Parameters
    Composition:  Clean, dry sawdust

    Packaging

All these briquettes come in a plastic outer. Please check with your local authority for recycling facilities.
